[Elys in the Dark Woods]

Als musikalischer Laie beschränke ich mich von jeher aufs Zuhören. Um selbst Musik zu machen fehlen mir dafür wichtige Gene. Für eine kurze Vorstellung der Debut-CD von ELISIR wirds aber wohl reichen.

[As I am not an expert in the field of music and lack important genes for playing music myself, I simply enjoy listening to it. I think, though, that my musical understanding will be sufficient to write a short review of ELISIR's debut CD: Elys im Dysterwald.]

Das Auge hört mit

[The CD-Cover - a true eye-catcher]

Die schöne Verpackung der CD ist der erste Kontakt zu ELISIR. Noch bevor der erste Ton erklingt hat man das Vergnügen sie in der Hand zu halten. Und es ist wahrlich ein Vergnügen:

[The first contact with ELISIR is the nicely done CD cover. Before even hearing the first sound, you enjoy holding the cover in your hand. When opened, it displays a beautiful design:]

Grafisch eine absolute Augenweide vermag das Motiv auf gekonnte Art und Weise die Stimmung des Albums bildlich darzustellen. Insofern ergänzt das Cover dezent die Musik.

Hervorzuheben ist meiner Ansicht nach dabei die sehr gute Farbwahl. ELISIR leuchtet dem geneigten Zuhörer regelrecht vom Cover entgegen und flüstert: Hör mich!

[The beautiful graphics depict the atmosphere created in the album, thus discreetly complementing the music. Especially noteworthy, in my opinion, are the nicely chosen colors: ELISIR virtually glows from the cover, whispering to the audience: Listen to me!]

Man muß "Elys im Dysterwald" schon in seiner Gesamtheit hören um es wirklich beurteilen und genießen zu können.

La Douleur De La Rose allein ist zwar wunderschön und eines meiner Lieblingsstücke auf der CD, es genügt jedoch nicht um alle Facetten zu zeigen bzw. zu hören, die Briantanus (Fabula) und TEC (Atomix Avenue) dem Zuhörer präsentieren.

[To be able to really judge and enjoy 'Elys im Dysterwald' you will need to listen to the CD in its full length.

It is true that 'La Doleur De La Rose' is a wonderful piece of music, actually one of my favorites, but it does not sufficiently show all the facets presented by Briantanus (Fabula) and TEC (Atomix Avenue).]

Die beiden entführen uns mit 18 Tracks und über 50 Minuten in eine geheimnisvolle Welt, in der unterschiedlichste Stimmungen für angenehme Abwechslung sorgen.

Für mich sind Furcht, Hoffnung, Liebe, Leid und Schönheit nur einige Begriffe, die das Empfundene umschreiben.

Die Musik fühlt sich erfrischend neu an, wobei man schon ein, zwei Durchgänge braucht um sich ganz in diese musikalische Welt fallen lassen zu können. So ungewohnt, aber deshalb auch so interessant klingen die orientalisch angehauchten, sehr rhythmischen Kompositionen.

Sechs der achtzehn Tracks haben eine Laufzeit von weniger als 2 Minuten. Ich empfinde sie durch ihre ungewöhnlichen Klänge und die Instrumentierung sozusagen als Bindeglied zwischen den anderen Stücken und als eine Vertiefung der empfundenen Stimmungen. Durch sie erhält das Album seinen Faden, der sich durch den Dysterwald zieht und den Zuhörer ganz tief eintauchen lässt.

[With 18 tracks and over 50 minutes, they lead us into a mysterious world where the most diverse atmospheres are created and provide pleasant variety. Fear, hope, love, suffering and beauty are only some of the words which express my feelings when listening to this music.

The music appears refreshingly new, but you will see that you need to listen once or twice to the entire CD to be able to totally give in to this musical world. The orientally inspired, very rhytmic compositions are quite unusual, and this is what makes them so interesting.

Six out of the 18 tracks take less than 2 Minutes. Due to their unusual sounds and instrumentation, I consider them a connecting link between the other pieces and an intensification of the moods created. They provide the album with a steady theme, leading the reader through the 'Dysterwald', the dark woods, and allowing him to get deeply immersed in it.]

Eines ist klar: Der Dysterwald beschert uns außergewöhnliche, wunderschöne Klangwelten fernab vom Mainstream. Wer mit dieser Musikrichtung etwas anfangen kann oder wer einfach nur aufgeschlossen für wirklich interessante neue Hörerlebnisse ist, der sollte sich diesen musikalischen Schatz unbedingt zulegen.

[One thing is for sure: In the 'Dysterwald' we find extraordinary, wonderful sounds far away from the mainstream. Those who like this type of music and/or those who are just open to really interesting, new hearing adventures should certainly get hold of this musical treasure.]

FAZIT:

"Elys im Dysterwald" kann als Gesamtkunstwerk voll überzeugen und erhält eine ausdrückliche Kaufempfehlung von mir. Man darf sehr gespannt sein, was uns ELISIR als nächstes präsentieren werden.

[In summary, 'Elys im Dysterwald' is a very convincing piece of art which I strongly recommend to buy. We will be exited to see which new project ELISIR will present next....]
